“Because you are Special” Those are the words my Jenni said to me when I asked her, how did I get so lucky to have her as my nurse that night. I was in the BHU department at the hospital for 2 days. I was there for the treatment of major depression and my anxiety. I smiled for the first time in a long time, I replied to Jenni and said, oh come on that’s can't be true. She replied and said, “I requested to be your nurse tonight because you are special”! You have to understand how depressed and how much anxiety I had at the time. I cried almost every time a nurse asked how I was doing. I could not hope for self-worth at all until Jenni said those words to me. I have been in the hospital many times for help with depression and anxiety. I’ve learned nursing is much more than giving meds, and checking your meds, the list could go on and on. Jenni lifted my spirits with kindness, empathy, and compassion. I know her words were true and come from her heart. There is no medicine in the world that could have made me feel the way she did by saying those words. Jenni also was there when I needed a shoulder to cry on in the hardest of times. Jenni also gave me great suggestions on how to cope with my depression. As long as I live, I will never forget her kind words and how she lifted my spirits in a time of need!
