Lauren called the manufacturer of the life vest and within one hour, the patient had a replacement charger, as well as a spare battery delivered to the ED.
Lauren had a three-bed assignment in the emergency department; a patient had told her that the battery had died for his life vest. The patient did not have a backup battery or charger with him or at home. The patient stated he was waiting for a replacement. Lauren tried calling CICU and the 7th floor to see if a battery was available. There were no extras available in-house. Lauren called the manufacturer of the life vest and within one hour, the patient had a replacement charger, as well as a spare battery delivered to the ED. Lauren ensured the patient’s safety for when he was discharged home all while waiting for a bed. She went above and beyond for her patient.
