When we were in the patient's room, he was calm and patient, which helped boost my confidence.
Lucas received two nominations from students:
Lucas pushes us to explain concepts and form a deeper understanding in the clinical setting. He implemented a new idea that allows one student to be the charge nurse that oversees the rest of the students, and with this, the charge nurse is responsible for all those patients. If you're in the role of charge nurse for the day, you get to question the other students on meds, provide feedback, and take on a little more responsibility. This has personally helped me to become more confident in prioritizing and communicating efficiently.
Another student shared: Clinical is an exciting time to learn new things, but it can sometimes involve stressful or overwhelming situations. When I was feeling anxious about drawing blood for the first time, Lucas helped refresh my memory of the steps and procedure while assuring me that it was all right to feel unsure about a task when performing it for the first time. When we were in the patient's room, he was calm and patient, which helped boost my confidence. He also explained throughout the process the reasons for doing certain things, such as pulling the skin back to not allow the vein to roll. This shows his dedication to teaching the proper methods and inspiring his students to practice procedures correctly and efficiently. All in all, Lucas has been a wonderful clinical instructor and deserves to be honored with this award.
