In all my years of experience, some individuals stand out for their great qualities and Kim is one of these people. Kim practices with compassion and is always an advocate for our patients. She is an extremely hard-working individual and cares for every patient on our service. She exhibits collaboration because she goes above and beyond to help our colleagues without being asked. She is always willing to help as soon as she notices that a staff member is getting called by the patients all at once. I remember a time when she volunteered to do the blood cultures and work up for one of the nurses whose patient reacted to a blood transfusion. That nurse was busy dealing with her other patient who had neurotoxicity and was confused.

Another time that Kim helped a staff nurse is when one of the patients became agitated and restless. Kim was one of the first nurses to respond to the numerous bed exit alarms because we did not have enough PSA sitters. Kim ended up giving up her PSA sitter to give to the more confused patient. She has also been very supportive whenever I’m Charge Nurse. Her expertise in balancing the assignment has helped me tremendously and I could not have done it without her. Nurses and doctors enjoy working with her. She is a great example of Nursing Excellence, and we are very lucky to have her on the night shift.
