One of the beautiful things about the College of Nursing is the students’ opportunity to work with professors on various research projects. Dr. Himes has been an extraordinary mentor in our research together. Our project involves communicating hereditary cancer risks to families, and she is a strong advocate for this cause. She has done amazing work in educating others, supporting her own family in this hardship, and finding novel ways to improve communication with those whose lives are at risk.

Deborah is a good teacher through her example, personal stories, and teaching methods. She knows others’ needs and goes out of her way to talk to students and address their sensitivities. Himes truly cares for her students. She prepares her class to maximize learning and minimize stress. She also listens and applies feedback from students.
