He identified the issue on his own, and shared it with the clinical group and the nursing team at the facility.
Able to work with a diverse group of patients, build rapport and earn their trust. With his patient interactions, he shows interest in them, acknowledges their feelings, and maintains therapeutic boundaries. When there are behavioral issues, he critically analyzes the situation, tries to identify contributing factors, and advocates for patients as appropriate. He once discovered that a patient's prescription Lithium had expired on the MAR. Thus, the patient had gone days without receiving the medicine and had behavioral issues on the unit. He identified the issue on his own, and shared it with the clinical group and the nursing team at the facility. At this point, the issue was rectified but his approach created a great learning opportunity as this is a common problem with psychiatric patients who stay on the unit for an extended period of time.

Duncan is also respected by his peers for his expertise and leadership skills. Duncan also works well with the clinical facility staff, and used opportunities to learn from their experience in managing various behaviors. When appropriate he shares experiences with his peers during post conferences which helped enhance learning. Besides his bedside skills, he also has great leadership/organizational skills.
