I was scheduled for a peripheral blood stem cell collection through “be the match” today. I have a lot of anxiety around needles and blood draws in general. From the first moment I met Sarah she was incredibly empathetic, and her clinical skills are second to rare. She took the time to explain everything to me to alleviate my anxiety. She explained how to interpret the ultrasound and the criteria she used to select the best vein. She was able to help me relate my feelings to other experiences and let me know that my feelings were valid. She let me know that she would be with me every step of the way today and I would make it through. Sarah had a great sense of humor and compassion. She was able to relate to me personally and we even connected over stories and pictures of our pets. Sarah frequently checked on my comfort and anxiety and was incredibly supportive. She never showed any frustration and was incredibly kind as well. She also took care of my mother’s needs throughout the day. She really was able to care for me holistically and mind, body, and soul. Thank you, Sarah, for turning such an important day into something wonderful. I will never forget your kindness and your ability to connect with me.
