When it comes to these patients no one is more relentless in their pursuit of these patients' care and safety than Menle.
Unfortunately, over the last few months, we have had several patients readmitted for wound infections likely related to incisions that did not heal properly due to excessive drainage. When it comes to these patients no one is more relentless in their pursuit of these patients' care and safety than Menle. When rounding, providers copy and paste notes stating patient's incisions are clean, dry, and intact, Menle will call them out and inform them how often the dressing had been changed/reinforced, and how often the canister had been changed on a wound vac in 24 hours.

In one particular instance, Menle called the MD's office 5 times without an answer so she called the surgeon directly. The office RN later called her back upset that the issue was not an emergency stating that there was no need to have called the MD, but this did not stop Menle from ensuring patient safety in future instances. When she does not agree with an MD/PA knowing it could lead to further complications for the patient, she reaches out to other available resources like wound care nursing or infectious disease for recommendations and advice. She is not afraid to do what is right even if others give her resistance. She will go up the chain of command to ensure patients' needs are met. She is a true advocate for patient safety. I am proud to call her a part of my team knowing our most challenging patients are always in good hands in her care.
