I was here with my friend M in the ICU. Carrie was our night nurse. At approximately 0400 on the morning of the 4th, M awoke in a frantic panic. Try as I would I could not calm him down. I called for help, and Carrie quickly entered. After trying a myriad of things and failing, and M refusing to calm down, Carrie picked up his hand, looked him in the eye, and softly began to sing/hum. M relaxed and stared her in the eye. Within a couple of minutes, M was asleep. She continued for a few minutes while he fell into a deep slumber. My wife works in the healthcare field, and I have never seen a greater display of love for a patient than what I saw last night, and I will never forget or be able to repay Carrie for that kindness.
