This nurse was very compassionate when they found out that this patient in the ER had a husband on the second floor who was on Hospice. He stated that his dying wish was to see his wife. This nurse's patient needed to go to the ICU. They brought the entire ED Team together and consulted Leadership and Case Management on a safe plan. This nurse communicated with the nurses on the second floor and everyone worked together to take the wife on a route that would pass by her husband's room, on the way to the ICU. When both the wife and husband saw each other, it was such a beautiful moment. They smiled so much, and the wife even spoke, after being nonverbal for a period of time. They were both beaming and both improved clinically in that moment. All was right in their world for just a few moments in time. The touching picture brought tears to everyone's eyes. The POA gave permission for them to be photographed. This nurse coordinated printing out the photos and delivering a photo to each patient's room. This nurse placed the photos in a sign stand, so that both patients could see each other’s photos. Likely the last one they would ever take together.

This is one of the most caring and heartfelt stories I have encountered at Riverside Doctor's Hospital Williamsburg. This nurse took those precious moments out of their schedule to deliver a truly beautiful experience. The husband was able to see his beautiful wife before dying. This nurse was his dream come true, his answered prayer. The nurse's thoughtfulness and compassion made this all possible. I told them that they quite possibly delivered one of the GREATEST MEMORIES of these patients’ ENTIRE lives. For this reason, Devin is a true DAISY Nurse.
