There were times she laughed with us about something funny and times when she comforted us as we fought off tears.
Our 22-year-old son experienced a ruptured AVM that caused a massive brain bleed. He arrived at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital with only a small amount of hope that he would survive. After stabilizing him, the staff moved him to the Trauma Neuro ICU that evening. The first nurse we encountered was Madeleine. Throughout our 30-day stay in the TNICU, Madeleine was our son’s nurse many times. She became an unbelievable source of comfort to our family. Each day she worked she took time to provide us with support, answered all of our questions, talked to us about his condition that particular day, and sought out answers to our questions that she could not answer. The trauma our family was experiencing was eased by her presence and professionalism. There were many days when she just took five minutes and sat to talk with us. There were times she laughed with us about something funny and times when she comforted us as we fought off tears. She was our first nurse on the first day and she was our last nurse on the last day when he left the TNICU for Seton Specialty Hospital. We were blessed to have her with us during that time. We hope that Ascension St. Vincent understands how valuable she is to the organization. We know how valuable she was to us.
