I am a 24-year Navy Retired Veteran and I moved here from California last year to Charleston to accept a job transfer. I had an assigned VA mental health doctor and also a doctor that prescribed my medications. When I moved here I was very hesitant on believing I would get the same level of treatment I had in California after working with the excellent staff that was assigned to me. When I checked in here at the VA at the Rivers location it was still unclear to me how the transfer of service would be with the staff here. Once I completed my mental health screening I was told that I would be contacted by a mental health nurse in the next couple of days.

Tanya called me and was very nice with her introduction and explained to me that she would be my provider and help me with everything I needed going forward. I mentioned to her that I had 3 people back in San Diego doing the task that she had now taken the responsibility of providing for me. Tanya not only did the job seamlessly but was a pivotal portion of not only my mental health and stress management. Tanya provided to be a significant factor for me transitioning to my new home here in Charleston.

I personally endured a tremendous amount of stress and depression with not only the difficulties of the move but issues with my new job along with my PTSD. Tanya was my strong support system and friendly guide talking to me and making me feel much better and ensuring all my medication and appointment needs were met. She even helped me with ordering me a pill organizer and pill cutter which I didn’t even know I was eligible for, and it made a significant difference in keeping me accountable and more responsible for taking my meds. She has also been an important advocate in making sure my medications were placed and even recently helped me obtain essential equipment for my CPAP machine.
