Establishing a personal connection with patients goes a long way toward alleviating anxiety and stress in the hospital. This nurse was nominated by a patient’s daughter for doing just that. She recognized the patient as a retired Pathologist she had worked with years ago. It made him feel secure and well taken care of to have such as experienced nurse caring for him. She understood and accommodated his medical background and anxieties, and she went all out to deal with them by requesting attention from doctors when needed. She was an incredible nurse to us. She was a joy to talk to and turned a scary cardiac procedure into a walk down memory lane for my father. We have a second procedure planned and I will ask for her as our nurse when we schedule!
