She continued to advocate for her and stand up for what was right. She used her chain of command and found alternative routes to get the patient what she needed.
This nurse received a patient post-cesarean section who started to become unstable throughout the night. Despite calling physicians frequently throughout the night to update them on her changes the physicians did not see the urgency of the situation, but that did not stop this nurse from advocating for her patient. She continued to advocate for her and stand up for what was right. She used her chain of command and found alternative routes to get the patient what she needed. The anesthesiologist ended up seeing the patient and also saw the changes and the decline in the patient's condition. From that point, imaging was ordered and confirmed the nurse's suspicions of a slow bleed, internal hemorrhage. Without this nurse’s persistence and her following her nursing judgment the outcome for this patient could have been a lot worse. She continued to advocate for this patient when she could not advocate for herself or care for her baby. This nurse took this all on and without her persistence, the little girl and her five siblings at home may not have been able to take their mom home. Please never stop advocating for your patients. Your determination and persistence are inspiring. Your patients are so lucky to have you!
