When Corey is in charge of the team, he acts with proficiency, humility, and equality. It is not always easy to keep a level head in the chaos of the emergency department, but Corey is known to maintain control in difficult situations. It is obvious that his experience guides him, and he offers that knowledge to benefit the team. He is a selfless leader and is never "above" any bedside task that is less than ideal. He offers to "take one for the team" in more situations than I can recount. I know I can always count on him for skill support (especially ultrasound-guided IVs) and for leading the team well. I have never seen him use his knowledge to belittle or look down upon other team members. Instead, he lifts them up and supports them where necessary.

He deserves this award because as a leader he consistently stands out from the rest. Corey's excellence in nursing care extends beyond a specific event or story. For him, his excellent character and teamwork are consistent-- it's an EVERY day thing! When Corey works on the unit, the entire team knows that no matter what happens, we are going to be okay and his support is felt by all. He exemplifies selfless leadership and is always willing to get his hands dirty, even beyond his patient assignment. He is our go-to resource for patients that are difficult to obtain IV access on. He is without a doubt the best at inserting ultrasound-guided IVs and loves to teach when appropriate.

I cannot even provide an example of "one time" this nurse made a meaningful difference in the care of our patients-- not because he hasn't, but because he ALWAYS is doing so. Corey consistently makes a difference in our patients' lives and in our team in the emergency department. He is a core team member that keeps this place running smoothly.
