I just wanted to tell someone about my mother’s nurse, Egan. He has gone above and beyond during her stay. My mom is going home on hospice tomorrow and he has simply been wonderful. He truly cares about her. When he walks in, she lights up. It’s something small but I can see it. He is the only one she has done this for. When she wasn’t eating, he took the time to talk to her and find out why. She was getting the same things on her meal trays, and it wasn’t something she liked. He talked to the Dietician and had them come up. He made sure she had options. He also makes sure the freezer is stocked with chocolate ice cream, her favorite! Egan comes to see us, even if he isn’t the assigned nurse for the day. We have been here multiple times and he makes all the difference. He is always checking in on her. There should be more nurses like him. He truly cares. I just wanted to make sure he knew the impact he made and I wanted to say, “thank you”.

Egan came to our unit as a nurse resident (his first career was as a firefighter). I first worked with him during our 3rd covid surge we worked together side by side during a rapid response that soon transitioned to comfort care. Egan went above and beyond during this stressful time assisting the nursing staff and ensuring the patient was comfortable. A few shifts later he asked if we had openings for nurse residents, and that he was graduating and would like to be part of our team! "Absolutely!" was my instant reply. He has been an absolute joy from the start of his residency. He is mentioned almost daily in patient rounding and is always offering a helping hand to the entire team.
