Every day nurses here do things that help a patient feel less frightened, feel more comfortable, understand a planned procedure better; or simply feel well cared for. I would like to recognize Julie Berry. She has worked as a nurse in many areas and has many gifts that make her a great nurse. She is personable, compassionate, empathetic, and approachable. Young and old staff look to her as an excellent role model. She is always looking for ways to help staff. She is very dependable. She has been known to stay, work the night shift when needed and come to work on her off days. I have seen her remain very calm in difficult situations be it with a patient or a staff member. She is always problem-solving and looking out for what is best for the patient or the staff. I believe she is a DAISY Nurse for all the ways she has helped staff have a less stressful day or night, which translates to patients having better care and outcomes. Which is what everyone is trying to achieve in our work at MercyOne.

Julie Berry knows/preceptive/directive, universally kind, always patient, willing, and self-directed. In the class of old-school nurses. She reminds me of my father’s and grandfather’s surgical nurse. Things are done with fubs or glitter. Generally, a step or two ahead/when she says something needs your attention, it does! Known for 20 years. The first nurse I met who has made Mercy, exceptional! I have learned to listen when she says something.
