On that day, Lori was able to connect the dots. I really can’t remember what exactly she said, but I remember how she made me feel.
I first met Lori as I was finishing one part of radiation treatment and was preparing to start another. After asking the usual nursing questions, she asked how I was doing. At that point, I became tearful because I was rather anxious and fearful of the upcoming treatments. She was so kind, comforting, and compassionate. She took the time to listen to my fears and reassured me that I would get through the treatments. I must say my entire treatment team was very supportive and tried to reassure me that everything would be done to make me comfortable, but on that day, Lori was able to connect the dots. I really can’t remember what exactly she said, but I remember how she made me feel. Lori told me that she was scheduled to be with me for the first treatment and that I would not be alone. That first day she was there from beginning to end it was a long day. She ended up being there for all but one of the treatments. During the treatments, I could not have asked for more attentive care. From ice chips to warm blankets, from pain medication to answering my questions Lori was there…she knew what I needed before I asked. When she was working with me, she was so focused. I know she had other patients and responsibilities, but you would not have known it. It made such a difference to have Lori standing beside me during the procedures. Lori definitely exemplifies what it means to be a nurse…She will always be my DAISY Nurse
