One day while I was at work, I had a difficult, agitated patient who was combative. A family member had come into the patient's room and removed his patient's restraints without asking the staff first. Upon going to see my patient, we cleaned him up and he struck both my preceptee's and my hands/arms because his restraints were off. Ghita came to the rescue that day as she intervened once informed by reassuring the upset family members of their family in restraints and de-escalating the situation quickly. Healthcare workers must endure abuse from patients, and Ghita made sure we (the staff) were ok and formed a plan of care so the family would be satisfied, and the staff would be kept safe. Ghita stayed at work late that day to make sure we filled out injury reports and helped up by presently talking with this patient's family members. I appreciate Ghita's diligence as this situation could have been much worse. I would like to add how Ghita frequently jumps to the floor from her office when we are short-staffed and busy. Ghita will do anything to help her floor and her staff whether it involved passing medications, helping patients to the bathroom, or even taking assignments.
