Janine has so many strengths but the thing I like the best about her is how compassionate she is to everyone she meets. I see her interact with patients from all walks of life and she treats them all the same with compassion, dignity, and respect.
I have worked with Janine for the past 6 years, 3 as a staff nurse, and the last 3 years with her being my supervisor. In all the years that I have been in the nursing field, this nurse is the BEST by far. She makes herself available 24/7 whether it be by phone, text, or in person. She is always willing to pitch in when needed even when it is a shift that needs filled or that difficult IV stick. She always comes in with a smile on her face. Janine knows her staff very well. She notices if you are stressed out and need to take a moment to yourself. She gives us recognition when recognition is due. It is nothing out of her norm to slip us a little thank you note, thanking us for all we do. With all that being said, this nurse is deserving of this award.

I have been within the HaysMed system for over 25 years in patient care and now as a Clinical Services Coordinator. For the past year and a half I have been able to work with Janine. In my time working for her, if there is one word, I can use to describe her leadership style and why her employees respond so well to her, it is “Grace”. Janine treats each of her employees with awesome grace and really responds to their needs. We know that Janine cannot fix everything, but she can make them better by being the kind of leader that offers support and a sincere ear to their problems, needs, and concerns. I have the unique privilege of being able to see Janine perform with all her different employees. She supervises over 100 staff. I don’t know how to describe the change I have seen in ICU over the past year, but it is palpable and all in the direction of the positive. Time and time again her staff tell me how grateful and thankful they are that Janine is their supervisor. It is simple really; Janine just cares deeply for what she does and the difference she can make in her staff’s work environment thus benefitting the patients overall.

When I hear the term Nurse Leader, I think of Janine right away. Not only do I get the privilege of working under her, but I get to see her in action every day over a large team of nurses, and am so inspired and motivated by her. She has taught me so much in the short time that she has been my supervisor. Janine has so many strengths but the thing I like the best about her is how compassionate she is to everyone she meets. I see her interact with patients from all walks of life and she treats them all the same with compassion, dignity, and respect. The way she treats her staff is extraordinary. In my 20 years plus in the workforce I have never known a boss can treat their staff so well. She is approachable with any situation a staff member brings up for concern and she takes the time to listen and understand. Honestly, I don’t know how she has the time because she puts so much time into her job. I have never seen her let an issue go without resolution. She is on the ball 24/7 and I admire her for that. She has powerful critical thinking skills. She always has a solution and it's always a, “why didn’t I think of that”. She is not only smart but confident, there is no task that she will turn down. She has a “let’s do it approach” and will never give up until the job is done. She is always striving to do better and that makes me want to do better not only to be a better nurse but a better human. I have never seen her with a poor attitude, she always has a smile on her face. Although, she can always sense when I am having the slightest rough day, or something is bothering me. She will come to me and ask if I am ok, and the simple fact that I know she cares instantly puts me in a great mood, and I am able to care for my patients and be the best nurse I can be.

Note: This is Janine's 2nd DAISY Award!
