I feel 100% because of Tara’s seasoned nursing skills, compassion, kindness, and nonjudgmental approach this patient was given treatment that might not have been otherwise offered.
Tara was the nurse in triage and went above and beyond to help my husband during his entire visit in the ED even though she wasn’t “his” nurse. She did a great job making him feel comfortable and putting his mind at ease. She was very authentic, knowledgeable, and compassionate even when she did not have to stick around to help. She checked back in on him a few times and she even offered to help get him discharged quickly when it was time and was genuinely concerned with making sure we understood his discharge and follow-up instructions. I am sure the ED was busy and there were plenty of things to be done but Tara made us feel like we were her only priority when she was with us.

Good Morning, I am writing to share a situation that had a great outcome due to Tara’s nursing skills and compassion. Friday evening a patient presented to the ED for a self-inflicted cut. This patient is well known to the ED but not to me. When I arrived the patient was vomiting. The patient continued to vomit on and off. Meds were given but with little effect. Tara was covering for an RN break and came back to introduce herself (as she ALWAYS does) and spent time talking with the patient. The patient ran to vomit and Tara followed. She noticed the patient’s stomach was tight and the muscles were cramped. She talked with the patient more and the patient shared that there had ingested 20 plus caffeine shots. Tara was able to talk with the provider and develop a plan of medication that would ease the symptoms for the patient. The patient was able to sleep for a while. The anxiety was greatly decreased, the vomiting had been decreasing some, and a connection had developed. I feel 100% because of Tara’s seasoned nursing skills, compassion, kindness, and nonjudgmental approach this patient was given treatment that might not have been otherwise offered. She is amazing, kind, caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate when working with all patients in the ED. She also is a great communicator and lets security and MHRTs know what her plan is and what she is thinking would be most helpful. This job is tough and Tara rises to the challenge with kindness and an open mind to the possibilities.
