I believe the qualities of a good nurse are: someone who is compassionate, empathetic, a team player, a patient advocate, an educator, and a leader. Ryan possesses every one of these qualities. It is very difficult for me to give a single example of why I believe Ryan deserves this award as there are so many. I have witnessed Ryan trying to make necessary follow-up appointments with patients’ PCPs only to be placed on hold for as long as 45 minutes. He always waited the necessary amount of time- until the appointments were made. He could have just hung up and instructed the patient’s family to make the appointment, but he never did, and he remained patient the entire time. Ryan demonstrates compassion with all his patients. Many returning patients request him. He routinely “volunteers” to care for the more challenging patients and he always renders exceptional care. I could give example after example of why I feel Ryan is a DAISY Nurse. However, I’ll simply say this, Ryan is one of the most empathetic, kind-hearted, patient advocates I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
