Latasha went above and beyond and went home to make an entire pan of mac and cheese to bring in specifically for this patient so he would continue to eat.
We had a patient that was in our care for 80 days. The patient had a very complex medical history that included developmental delay, seizure disorder, aggressive behavior, and more. The patient was very difficult at times and aggressive to staff. The patient had multiple surgical procedures including a feeding tube due to refusal to eat/drink. Many associates tried to entice the patient to eat or drink without success. The patient was mostly nonverbal until one day when Latasha was able to engage him in a conversation about how she was going to have mac n cheese for dinner. Latasha noticed the patient lit up and explained he liked mac n cheese, especially with butter. Latasha kindly that night, offered the patient her own lunch, and to our surprise, he ate the entire meal. That night Latasha went above and beyond and went home to make an entire pan of mac and cheese to bring in specifically for this patient so he would continue to eat.

Latasha continually goes above and beyond for her patients. She cares for them with such kindness and always takes time to talk with her patients. (even when she doesn’t have time) She is a great example of the compassion and care we should all strive to give to our patients. This is just one of the countless examples of the great care she provides and the incredible nurse she is. She is frequently recognized by her patients for her kind words and overall care and she is every bit deserving of this award.
