Just 3 short weeks into working with this nurse, I could already tell she is a DAISY Nurse. She embodies everything a DAISY Nurse should be: kind, compassionate, and a true advocate for patient safety and care. It’s the way she goes above and beyond to make a true connection with her patients. She truly cares for them and finds out their needs beyond simply pain meds and water.

One day, I found her in a patient’s room who had been in the hospital for over 30 days. She was combing the woman’s long hair that was down to her hips. The patient said that her hair hadn’t been brushed since she was admitted and she took an hour to comb her hair and get her feeling comfortable. Another time, I found her changing the bed linens in another nurse’s patient room. When I asked her what she was doing, she simply said, “they had an accident so I’m just cleaning them up and changing the bed”. She hadn’t put it off for the assigned nurse or tech to do; she simply saw a patient in need and took it upon herself to care for them. That’s who she is. She’s a nurse who will go above and beyond for all patients, not just her assigned ones.

Working with her is a true pleasure. She is always willing to lend a hand to a patient or coworker. She builds connections with her patients who truly appreciate her kind demeanor and the way she advocates for them fiercely. I am proud to work with her and I feel she is truly a DAISY Nurse.
