Kari’s compassion, guidance, and support were more than we could have ever hoped for in what was the scariest moment of our lives.
My husband and I brought our son into the ED after experiencing a severe headache, loss of peripheral vision, and numbness in both his face and mouth. Upon arrival, he was ushered into his room. Kari took him immediately to CT and stayed with him and explained everything that was happening and answered all his questions. As a 14-year-old boy with no medical history, he was terrified. As his parents, we were as well. When our son returned to his room, Kari stayed with us, explaining to him what was going to happen, started his IV, and kept us as calm as possible. Suddenly, he became confused and lethargic. He couldn’t articulate what he wanted to say and it was looking more and more like a potential stroke. I was tearful and so scared. Kari recognized that immediately and took me out of the room and into the bathroom where I could have some privacy and break down in a place our son couldn’t see me. She knew I had to put on a strong front for him and when it was obvious I was struggling with that, she knew just what I needed. Kari’s compassion, guidance, and support were more than we could have ever hoped for in what was the scariest moment of our lives. We are so thankful that our son came out of this with no stroke identified and no long-term effects. While we may never 100% be certain of the cause, we do know that Kari was instrumental in his care and we are so incredibly grateful for her. She never left our side and in those moments, it was exactly what we needed. She is a true rock star. She had even picked up that shift, so some divine intervention took place to make sure she was where she was needed most and we cannot thank her enough.
