My 86-year-old father was transferred to 3E from the 5th floor during the night and Melissa was his daylight nurse the following day. She was extremely attentive to my dad and my family. My sister and I are both nurses and she patiently answered all our questions, contacting physicians as needed to address our concerns about our dad’s condition. Beyond being an excellent nurse, she was extremely patient, never appeared rushed, and was openly friendly and warm in all of her interactions.

Melissa was very conscientious of the care she provided and took it upon herself to insert another IV when the medication my dad was receiving was not compatible with his IV fluids. This was important because he was NPO, and the medication needed to run over several hours. Perhaps the highlight of her care for my mom and dad was when Melissa contacted the doctor after my dad’s procedure to see if he could have a dinner tray because it was well after the dinner hour and we were not confident he would receive anything. The joy in his room when the dietary person walked in with his clear liquid dinner cannot be fully explained. In summary, Melissa was an extraordinary nurse we will never forget. Her nursing care was exceptional because it truly reflected that she cared and took the time to show it. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
