The nurse that stood out above the rest was Catherine (Caty). More than her professional care, her advice for helping get labor going, her tips for working through contractions, more than all the amazing work she did with us. She had a presence that changes the hospital atmosphere for me. She was cheerful and made jokes that put me at ease. She treated us like we were old friends, just hanging out for the day. She gave me so much confidence in my ability to labor and deliver this baby. I remember being sad when her shift ended.

As luck would have it, she was right back on shift just as I was in transition, ready to push. I was so happy to see her familiar face! She had the same infectious optimism before and totally helped with my spirit during pushing. I am happy I got to spend the rest of the day being cared for by Caty. She had a pivotal role in making my experience at Baptist a positive one. I am very thankful for her.
