I had a double mastectomy with direct implant reconstruction at Magee Women's Hospital for breast cancer. I would like to nominate Amy who was one of my nurses in the PACU. I arrived at 2:40 PM and Amy helped me to be able to be discharged by 9:30 PM. She was kind, caring, and compassionate. She spent a lot of one-on-one time with me controlling my pain and nausea and encouraging me to keep hitting goals I needed to be discharged on the same day. She also took the time to teach my husband how to fix and empty the drain. She put emphasis on proper technique. I feel that without her expert help, I would have had to spend the night which would have put me further at risk. My WBC was 2.4. Thanks to all the nurses who cared for me as well.
