In a moment when I was most scared and lonely, Mitch brought me comfort. Mitch held my hand and shared stories of his grandparents.
When my father was in the hospital, Mitch connected right away with him. He would talk to him and would tell it like it is, but yet you could tell he deeply cared and he tried everyting to help make what he was going through easier.
Mitch also would talk to my mom and me and answer any questions we had. While he was on the computer in the room, he asked my parents how long they were married and they said 61 years. Mitch couldn’t believe it. He asked what was their secret….. That is just some of the sweet talk he said to make us all comfortable.
We were blessed to have Mitch for two days and my Dad’s face lit up the second day when he walked into the room. That day my dad took a turn for the worse and got moved to the pulmonary ICU. Mitch wanted to help bring him there because like Mitch said “he is my man” and wanted to help.
After Mitch’s shift that day, he came down to Dad’s room where most of our family was and we thought that was so amazing. My Dad passed away the next morning and we all couldn’t be happier that Mitch was one of the last nurses he had. That guy is so wonderful at his job!

I was admitted to Sanford in Sioux Falls during January 2023. Mitch was my first nurse during my 3+ week stay. In a moment when I was most scared and lonely, Mitch brought me comfort. Mitch held my hand and shared stories of his grandparents. As I sit in my 90th year of life, he shared that his grandmother made 97 years. Before he left on a four-day vacation to Arizona, he stopped into my room to say goodbye and remind me to keep fighting.
We had several similarities with being nearly 70 years in age difference. He treated all patients the same from my viewpoint offering the best patient experience to those on the 1st floor.
Weeks later when I was going on week 3 of my stay, he tracked me down even though I had several floor and room changes. He stopped in the morning just to tell me hello and catch me up on his golf trip. Overall, my family was extremely thankful to have his care. He brought a smile to my face and theirs. Mitch is a true DAISY Nurse.
