My sister was a patient on Ellison 21. She was admitted to Ellison and never left except in spirit. From the time she was admitted, Mel took complete charge of her care as if it were her own sister. Mel was so loving and kind, and really cared for my sister with love and compassion. She made sure she was cleaned with dignity and comfortable. Not only did Mel handle the care of my baby sister with open arms and love, she also had to deal with the family. My sister had 5 sisters that loved her dearly, a husband, 2 children and many friends. The family members did shifts so our sister would not be alone during her last days in life. Mel always had patience and took the time to answer our concerns and was a great listener. Mel handled all the family dynamics through this difficult time, and this was NOT easy! When my sister was first admitted she couldn't eat or drink anything. Mel made her this drink which was a Gatorade/ginger ale mix and explained it like she was getting a martini. My sister agreed to try it and loved it! So, we named it “Mel's Mi.” All 11 family members (sisters, husband, and children) would like to celebrate Mel for all her kindness, love, and help through this grievance process. Thank you, Mel.
