Taylor immediately began CPR. In the midst of her resuscitative efforts, she gave details to the 911 dispatcher and instructed another bystander on how to deliver rescue breaths.
In the 5 years that I have spent at the bedside, I have never had the privilege of working with such an exceptional nurse as Taylor Murphy. As a team, we have come a long way in shaping our current culture. Upon reflection, it is very apparent to me when this started, after Taylor transferred to 2E ICU. She personifies nursing excellence in all that she does and inspires her fellow nurses to do the same. Taylor is a leader in the ICU as a charge nurse, preceptor, and fierce advocate for her patients. She consistently demonstrates grace under pressure, anticipates the needs of the Unit effortlessly, and can always be found at the bedside to help her coworkers without being asked.

Taylor exhibits all of the qualities found in a DAISY Nurse. As a member of the Critical Care Advanced Mobility workgroup, she dedicates herself to interdisciplinary collaboration in the shared goal of improving outcomes for patients with critical illness. She is a comforting presence at the bedside, using her knowledge to educate her patients and their families to help them navigate through the fear and uncertainty that intrinsically comes with critical illness. Her clinical skill and critical thinking are with her wherever she goes, this was never so apparent than this past fall while she was on vacation in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

In a moment of complete happenstance, Taylor encountered a man who was slumped over the steering wheel of his car, pulseless and nonbreathing. With the assistance of other bystanders, the man was lowered to the ground and Taylor immediately began CPR. In the midst of her resuscitative efforts, she gave details to the 911 dispatcher and instructed another bystander on how to deliver rescue breaths. Her actions allowed for this man to be resuscitated and med-flighted to a hospital that would have taken 1.5 hours by ground transport. It is not every day that you can say, as Taylor can, that you give back life to a complete stranger, who was perhaps a husband, a father, or a son. This example, although outside of the hospital environment, is the essence of everything Taylor is as a nurse and as a person, making her truly a DAISY Nurse.
