Dan was not our nurse, but he assisted our nurse, who was an amazing nurse as well. She was kind and listened to all my concerns, treated my daughter with respect and kindness and we are so grateful. I am nominating Dan because of how he handled getting labs on our daughter. As a former peds nurse and a new mom with bad anxiety, I was losing my mind quietly about my daughter having to get the same labs I’ve done hundreds of times on hundreds of kiddos. Dan came into the room and immediately started making friends with my daughter, who has stranger danger to the max. He asked about her Abby and baby shark dolls, he made the entire experience a game, and his fun nature kept me calm as we got ready to do the labs. It was still hard, but she did so well because of how engaged in play he was with her. She didn’t smile all day and he got her to smile which warmed my heart. Thank you, Dan, for treating us like humans, treating my child like a child, and making such a hard situation into a game for her! She will probably keep that little popper forever. We appreciate the entire emergency department team. From the moment we walked in, triage and care we have been treated with respect. I appreciate it again. Thank you.
