She provided expert medical care and her emotional intelligence made her bedside manner remarkable.
Having a baby is a huge life milestone and next to delivering the baby caring for the baby is the next biggest challenge, especially when recovering from vaginal delivery. Hope was an absolute pro - she made us feel comfortable welcome and happy the moment we arrived. She provided expert medical care and her emotional intelligence made her bedside manner remarkable. She had funny analogies to teach us different concepts about being a new parent and imparted wisdom to us that will help us raise our daughter. She was down-to-earth accommodating sweet and loving. She answered our numerous questions and provided expert care throughout our entire stay.
The most noteworthy story from my stay with Hope was on my first night...after having received an epidural catheter and delivering the baby, my bladder was having a hard time activating. She told me I needed to urinate within 6 hours of arriving to Mother & Baby - the clock was on. After many hours I still had not gone. She gave me tips on how to get the pee flowing and my body just wasn't able to do it. As the hours passed she told me I'd have to have a catheter put in to avoid potential hemorrhage. She was sorry to say it but my health was important to her. This caused me immense stress and I immediately broke into tears begging for an alternative. She could sense that I was really scared of another procedure "down there" and it broke her heart to ruin her day so she thought up 1 more alternative -- hoping it would work -- sitting in a sitz bath filled with warm water. What do you know this activated my bladder causing me to urinate to an acceptable level and I did not need to be catheterized. I was SO relieved and grateful to Hope in that (and many other) moments during my stay at Mother & Baby in Huntington Hospital. Hope is an excellent nurse and extremely deserving of the DAISY Award. Thank you, Hope!
