She is constantly looking ahead to anticipate the needs of the unit to ensure a smooth practice environment.
This nurse has taken over our RN charge position in endoscopy since the beginning of COVID-19. As we all know, this pandemic has been difficult on everyone, and she was the stronghold of the unit during all the changes and unknowns. We have seen a high turnover in our core team and an influx of travelers. During this transition, she kept our unit running smoothly and safely. She worked alongside our doctors and anesthesiologists to meet their COVID-19 requests and ensure they felt safe providing care to our very sick patients. She made sure we had enough isolation supplies on hand and enough in stock for future needs. She also made sure the travelers were well informed of their job duties by keeping up with their strengths and weaknesses. She would highlight their strengths and improve their weaknesses by ensuring they were exposed to all aspects of our department and were able to practice safely. When we started to regain core staff, she ensured they were onboarded with an individualized orientation plan while still maintaining all her charge duties.
Being a charge in endoscopy is very challenging. They deal with doctors, sick patients, and the varying personalities of the team. She was not afraid to admit when she lost her cool and always maintained her professionalism.
She also has dedicated herself to thinking outside the box to assess department needs. She is constantly looking ahead to anticipate the needs of the unit to ensure a smooth practice environment. She has helped us revise the processes in PATT to better understand discrepancies in orders and schedules. She makes sure we have the proper equipment and training reps for future appointments. This nurse also looks ahead at staffing to make sure we are well-staffed every day. She basically runs this unit as if it were her own.
Our team is better because of her. Our teamwork has improved, we are more trained in our positions, and we have all learned to think outside of the box. This department has come a long way and we are running smoother than ever before because of this nurse extraordinaire!
