Hillary then brought the bed in and the patient and his family were so pleased with her kindness and going above and beyond to bring him THE EXACT BED which made him feel more comfortable.
Recently, a patient on 2N had been admitted with a new diagnosis of gastric cancer with significant metastatic disease. The patient was distraught, in a lot of pain, and required frequent paracentesis procedures. His only complaint was not having a comfortable bed as he had down in the ER. Nursing changed the bed 3 times, all with different mattress types, etc. to no avail, as the patient was dissatisfied with each bed. The patient preferred the older Hill Rom bed with the noisier airflow system. When the 3rd bed did not work out, the nurse asked the patient which room he had been in in the ER, went down to the ER, and asked the charge nurse if we could exchange our bed for the one there. The nurse then brought the bed in and the patient and his family were so pleased with her kindness and going above and beyond to bring him THE EXACT BED which made him feel more comfortable. This nurse exhibited compassion and care by taking the time to truly hear this patient and then make him more comfortable. Kudos to Hillary Numa-Gordon for her exemplary service, compassion, and nursing care.
