I came into the emergency room in the middle of the night with severe pain in my stomach. I thought my appendix was going to burst. I was given an ultra sound, and upon the doctor’s examination it was revealed that I was pregnant and about to give birth. I was placed onto a gurney and taken to the Labor and Delivery Unit. The sweetest presence came into my room: it was Emily. I pushed once and my son came out and Emily caught him. Emily delivered my baby without any doctor around. She was there with me through the night and talked to me as if I was family. It turns out I had pre-eclampsia. She put a catheter in me and talked me through the whole process. She kept checking on me and would always tell me where she would be in case I needed her. The next day, when she was off, she came in to give me her son’s clothes. Three whole bags of clothes. I had no clue I was pregnant. I had my period the whole 9 months and I was working more than 40 hours a week. Through the night, Emily would check on my son in the nursery. At one point his looks concerned her. She called the doctor and the doctor arranged for my son to be transported to the NICU in Springfield for further care. While in Springfield, Emily called to check on my son and me. She is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse. I pray for that woman every single night and I thank the Lord that she was my nurse. She made a traumatic experience beautiful. The amount of care and kindness she displayed changed my life. Thank you, Emily.
