My husband had a heart attack in April of 2020 at the start of COVID. Even though I am an employee here at DHMC, I was unable to see him during that time he was in the hospital for 20 days. It was very difficult as I did not have a point of contact while he was admitted here. Once he was released and being followed up with cardiology due to his heart failure we met Carolyn his nurse care manager at one of his visits with his provider.
Carolyn has been an unbelievable asset to us during these past two and a half years. She quickly responds to any questions or concerns, and believe me we have had a lot of questions and concerns! She is always pleasant, calm, and listens with care. She takes the time to pop in on the visits when she knows he is in an appointment in cardiology.
That face-to-face care means the world. My husband is now listed for heart transplant at tufts; this has caused other issues such as severe depression. Carolyn quickly got him in with the palliative care provider to help him during this stressful time.
Carolyn's attention to detail, and the care she has provided during the most stressful times of our lives, is beyond any care-giving experience we have ever encountered. She is truly an example of what extraordinary nursing is. I write this as a family member, but I have also had the pleasure of working recently with Carolyn with other heart failure patients that come to our lab. She shows the same compassions to all her patients. She is most deserving of this award.
