She went above and beyond to make a very emotional and unexpected situation be as easy and comfortable as possible.
I am an RN with 36 years of experience including 25 years in the ICU. My mother was a patient recently and had an unfortunate complication after her procedure requiring her to go to CTICU emergently. Sadly she passed away two days later. Upon hearing of the complication early in the morning, I went directly to CTICU. Our nurse met me right away. Her name was Kim Wright. First impressions mean everything in our job and Kim was perfect. She was calm, kind, supportive, patient, respectful, empathetic, and understanding. She took her time and explained everything to my family and to me and answered all of our questions. This can be challenging with an ICU nurse asking the questions but she was more than professional. Kim also helped us navigate all the particulars involving visiting, updates, what to expect, introductions to physicians, etc. She made it all very easy. She also personally stopped and talked to my family and me in the lobby the next day on her day off of the unit to see if we needed anything. She helped arrange needed testing for us to progress as a family to comfort care for my mother. My family and I felt more than fortunate to have her care for my mother, especially under unforeseen circumstances.
As mentioned, I have been an ICU nurse for 25 years with a total of 36 years in nursing. Kim epitomizes the qualities and definition of a DAISY Nurse. My only wish is that we had more nurses like her today. She went above and beyond to make a very emotional and unexpected situation be as easy and comfortable as possible.
She is one of a kind and our Angel on that particular day. Kim, thank you so much. You will never fully realize what your actions, words, caring, knowledge, and professionalism meant to my family and me. You will always be remembered. God bless you.
