She was so kind, compassionate, and caring. She slowly and thoughtfully explained to me what I could expect during the time leading up to and during his passing.
My father had been in this hospital multiple times over the last month and a half. He was very ill and had to have emergency surgery recently. He ended up being transferred to a room after surgery. His health continued to decline and by his wishes, he was placed on a ventilator in addition to needing dialysis if there was any chance of him recovering. His condition was declining rapidly and my mother and I were told he did not have much longer. We decided to stop dialysis and planned for my family to come that evening to say their goodbyes, and at that time, we would remove him from the vent and let him pass peacefully. Within a couple of hours of stopping dialysis, we were informed that my father would not make it until that evening for our family's arrival. My mother and I were devastated. We knew it was going to happen, but were completely caught off guard at how quickly he was deteriorating.
Jennifer was his nurse that day. It was our first time meeting her. She was so kind, compassionate, and caring. She slowly and thoughtfully explained to me what I could expect during the time leading up to and during his passing. She kept me completely informed of everything step by step during his transition. She hugged me, held my hand, and even prayed with me. My mother and I made the very painful decision to remove him from the ventilator with only moments left before he passed. It was his wish that when he went to be with the Lord, that he not be attached to machines that were only prolonging the inevitable.
Our nurse did an amazing job of letting us know when we were close to that point. The vent was removed and we had just minutes to hold his hand and be with him before he passed. This is the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my entire life, but our nurse made this as painless as possible. Because of her caring and compassionate ways, I feel like she is the reason my mother and I are at peace with my father's passing.
She is truly a godsend to our family and we cannot thank her enough.
