I have never taken lightly the power of a good nurse and how much their job literally can directly impact your life. This week I experienced how a single nurse could drastically change the direction your care is headed. In full blown sepsis, my surgeon cancelled imaging and wrote orders to discharge me...in...full. blown. sepsis.

My nurse, Evelyn, halted all of those plans and advocated for me in such a powerful way. Her willingness to jump in and shake things up saved my life, and that is not an exaggeration. She saved my life. That night I went unresponsive and she had to give me sternal rubs until the rapid care team could get there to help get me back. She not only saved me through her advocacy, but also physically when I became unresponsive.

Nurses are so powerful and their jobs are so impactful. I will forever be grateful for the multiple ways Evelyn saved my life in the 5 days I was hospitalized. I cannot thank her enough and if you are blessed enough to be her patient, you will completely relate.
