I believe God puts the right people in your path at the right time and that is very true with my stay at Missouri Baptist. I will tell you upfront, I’m not usually a good patient and dreaded having to stay 1 night much less 3 nights. My dad always received good care at this hospital, and I decided to follow in his footsteps with kindness and grace. Denise is a very caring and thoughtful nurse but also a straight shooter with information and delivers the information with great care and respect. She always made sure my pain was managed and told me what each medication was for and how it would help. When I received my first clear liquid diet there were items on the tray that she told me would cause more discomfort and removed them after I asked her to. She made sure my bed and pillows were as comfortable as they could be and that I had everything I needed. (The hospital really needs to invest in new beds and sheets). Because heating pads aren’t allowed, she brought me warm towels to put on my stomach to relieve the pain and pressure from my surgery. I went into Afib on Sunday and Denise handled my drop in BP with care and certainty. She called in help, gave a full report and I was back to a normal rate in no time. All I kept thinking was – Denise is calm, I need to stay calm.

These are just a few highlights of the care I received from the nurse God put in my path during my stay. Thank you for the opportunity to recognize Denise as a true DAISY Nurse. Because of her care, I won’t be pushing up daisies any time soon!
