Justin is a new grad, one year out, and has grown so much in the ED as a nurse. Recently Justin took care of a patient who was shocked to find out she had complete heart block at her doctor's appointment. As a result, she was rushed over to the ED and told she needed to be admitted for an emergent procedure. This was all overwhelming for this patient as she was the oldest sibling who always took care of everyone else. As she was processing this change in her health status and the need was for her to be taken care of. Justin was there for her arrival, prep, the plan of care, and admission. The patient stated upon arrival in the ICU, "You all have a high bar to reach, Justin has been amazing in making sure I understand everything that is going to happen".

Justin also made sure she was settled in the ICU and was comfortable with what she understood was going to happen. The patient had a better experience because of Justin and the time he took to understand her needs and meet them where she was at. They don't teach this in nursing school - Justin just has that nature to relate and care compassionately!
