He helped me find gratitude and explained the organic and environmental causes of some of the mental illness cases around me.
I nominate Jonathan Koch for the DAISY Award because he always said, “What else can I help you with?”

Every time he was my nurse, he was also the charge nurse and carried 4 other patients. He is a strong nurse who is also a preceptor. I would soon come to find out he is a man of Faith and has the patience of Job. If I needed water, or stuff for a shower he would drop what he was doing and take care of my needs right away. Several times I needed my phone to check my email, and Jon always made time for that. I observed Jon going above and beyond for other patients.

It was very important that I have blood work done to check my liver functions. One tube had been collected earlier and the last was up to Jon. He skillfully and painlessly collected the last tube. Gratefully I was happy to know my liver enzymes were coming down and my platelet count was going up. Jon kept on top of the labs and reported the results as soon as he could to ease my mind. Three other nurses could not get my blood.

Jon is a man who was able to help me see how lucky I was and have the illness I have. Many of the other patients were in much worse shape than I was. He helped me find gratitude and explained the organic and environmental causes of some of the mental illness cases around me.

I watch him keep his cool when a patient pushed a wheelchair into him. I was stunned. He explained that it was just the disease, not the patient. I said what can I do to help the guy? He said, “pray for him.” Jon is truly a man for others. Jon is a special nurse who gave me hope for a better life ahead.
