I have worked with Amy in the Emergency Room at Newton for about 2 years, and she is one of the most outstanding nurses, if not the most, that I have ever worked with. We had a patient come into the Emergency Room around 1900, during shift change, who was hemorrhaging. When this patient came into the ER, we evaluated her and understood the extent of care to which she needed. This was a very critical patient who needed all hands on deck to help treat her condition and keep her stable.
Rather than going home since she completed her shift, Amy stayed and rushed into the room to help stabilize this patient, along with the other night shift nurses. Amy showed extreme dedication to this patient by staying after her 12-hour shift, meanwhile she had to be back at 0700 the next morning, and do everything she could to help this patient. As a nursing student, being able to observe Amy in action and provide extraordinary care for this patient was truly inspiring and further encouraged me to follow my career pathway of being a nurse.
Amy handled a very intense and stressful situation in a controlled manner and went above and beyond for this patient. I look up to Amy and she is a true leader here in the Emergency Room. The dedication Amy has to her patients goes without saying, and I am extremely proud to be working by her side. Amy deserves this Award for her hard work and dedication to this unit and her patients.
