A patient’s daughter wanted to make sure her praise for Sheryll Randazzo was heard throughout the organization. She explained that her mom was recently admitted to SVMH for COPD exacerbation and pneumonia. She was discharged for short-term rehab. Unfortunately, she became short of breath and her respiratory status was declining quickly at PCPA. She was subsequently readmitted back to SVMH. It was thought that the patient was having another exacerbation of her COPD. The patient’s daughter says that she was “very impressed with Sheryll and her level of observation”. Sheryll realized that the patient came from PCPA and remembered that another patient tested positive recently for the flu from that facility. Sheryll jumped into action and was able to get the patient tested for the flu. Turns out, she tested positive for Influenza A, and the patient’s daughter was so grateful for Sheryll because now the patient is getting the proper treatment, and will hopefully recover quicker.
