Violet was our nurse the night before my husband’s bypass. I had been at peace until that night, and I became extremely concerned and spoke with Violet about it. When my husband was out of the room, she came back in to console me and told me she would see us after ICU. When we came back to the floor, there she was. She had switched shifts with someone so she could be there. During a very long stay at the hospital, due to complications, she continued to keep up with where he was. We missed her the last time we came out of ICU by one day. She told us that she kept waiting for us, but it ended up being a long stay in the ICU. I looked for her but always seemed to miss her. Here we are back in the hospital for the past 2 weeks and who is our charge nurse, Violet. She came in hugging me and telling me she had tried to find us. When they rolled my husband into the room after surgery last night, she was there, and I told him “Your favorite nurse is here”. Of course, since she was here, every time he would need something, he would say, “Go get Violet”. I can not say enough about her. We have had many nurses who have gone beyond their duty, but I don’t know all their names. I know their faces. Many like Violet followed his case and I would see them in the cafeteria, restroom, etc., and they would all come to say we have been praying for you. I have been very touched by all the compassion shown by all of the staff, but Violet is the closest to my heart.
