Her calm, nurturing demeanor helped me stay as calm as I could and I felt so comfortable with her that I even shed tears.
I can honestly say EVERYONE on the 5th floor was amazing. From Housekeeping to the Charge Nurse, my wife and I cannot say enough but one particular nurse stands out, and that is saying something after a 19 day stay, we had many nurses. Most were wonderful as well as the Technicians, but I will tell you an outstanding story about Gina.
My wife’s medical history is very complicated, especially over the past year when she participated in a clinical trial sponsored by Emory University for a “valve replacement” procedure, so when we entered your facility for what should have been a routine gallbladder procedure, things got complicated. Gina was able to take all the complicated topics, such as pancreatitis, and explain them to us in layman’s terms. She was a natural educator and it was amazing she took the time to educate both of us. She explained the sequence of events, outlined what the doctor was looking for with each test, and most importantly, she updated us when things changed. This made me feel as if my wife was top of mind with her at ALL times. Her time and attention eliminated confusion and hence our stress throughout our entire stay.
At one point, my wife’s heart rate “crashed” and she did not hesitate. She had full command of the situation and explained to me that the room will fill with team members and that your facility and team could tend to my wife’s needs. Her calm, nurturing demeanor helped me stay as calm as I could and I felt so comfortable with her that I even shed tears. Her lack of hesitation and leadership during this crisis is to be commended. Not to mention, it could have been life saving.
Subsequently, with an issue unrelated to the crash, we wound up in the ICU. Gina came in from two days off and heard where we were and found us. That effort will always stick with my wife and me, made us feel cared about, and not just another patient or statistic. Finally, we got to step down back to the fifth floor, and even though Gina had a very busy shift as the Charge Nurse, she found the time to check on us and see if we were fine or needed anything. I tell my family, Gina walks on water!!!!
