While obviously, Seth’s nursing skills are excellent, he kept T calm during the chaos (controlled chaos).
My husband was recovering from hiatal hernia surgery, which was major because of the large size of his hernia. On his second night, there was a problem. Seth, his nurse, was taking vitals and saw that my husband's heartbeat was accelerated. (160) He acted so quickly and while others came in to assist, he continued to work on T. He remained calm and talked to T about his interests (travel, fishing, and golfing). While obviously, Seth’s nursing skills are excellent, he kept T calm during the chaos (controlled chaos). He had genuine conversations about what T wanted to talk about.

It wasn't until it was all under control that my husband really understood how serious the situation had been. It was truly amazing witnessing how calm Seth appeared under so much pressure. I don't know that *that* can be taught; Seth seemed to come by his calmness naturally. He was our hero that night and we are so grateful for him, and the rest of the fast-acting nursing staff.

In addition to that, Seth made sure we both had everything we needed. He kept us informed of what needed to be done next and tried to time everything, such as meds, vitals, etc., with the other staff that needed to come in (blood drawn...) so that T had fewer interruptions, which was a Godsend since T had not been able to sleep very well since the surgery and it was becoming quite frustrating. Seth was relatable and truly kept T at ease and while my husband doesn't always talk a lot to strangers, he enjoyed his conversations with Seth.

For a young man, he knew a lot of things outside the medical field and was able to use that knowledge to make my husband's hectic, scary night feel much less stressful than it was. We are thankful for the great staff this hospital has, and especially for the ones like Seth that step up to go the extra mile and save a life. Then, make it appear as if all is well, and we're only there to meet new friends. Thank you, Seth!
