Thank you to Jose, for his compassion, patience, and fatherly input.
My daughter visited the ER for the fourth time due to issues with unresolved pain. This time, my daughter was to the point of intolerable pain, and I was at a loss as to what the next step was since ER visits were resulting in us being sent home with recommendations to see our doctor as soon as possible. It was a weekend, and our doctor was not available. On this visit, we were hopeless and frustrated. My daughter was inconsolable with pain. There was a moment when I felt so hopeless due to not being able to do anything to relieve my daughter’s anguish. I turned away from her and faced Jose, and he must’ve seen the despair in my eyes, and he said, “Don’t worry Mom, she is going to be ok.” That was the only glimmer of hope I got during that situation, and he provided it to me when it was needed most. Soon after, my daughter started responding to the pain medication and she experienced relief. I apologized to him for who knows what reason and he said, “It's ok, as parents we don’t want our children to be in pain, we would rather it be us.” I felt so consoled by this, not that I did not already know this, but I needed to hear it from someone else. Thank you to Jose, for his compassion, patience, and fatherly input. All this occurred despite the ER busting at the seams with patients. He apologized to me for being so busy and I expressed my understanding. He personifies the qualities of being a compassionate and Extraordinary Nurse.
