She remained gentle, understanding, compassionate, and caring.
Please recognize Antoinette for exemplifying compassion. The other day she was spat on by a patient. She did not respond angrily but quietly went to the back and cleaned herself up. When she returned, the patient had a box of crayons and threw them at her. Without flinching, she raised her right hand up and blocked the missile from hitting her. This morning this nurse went even further. A patient walked over to the nurses’ station requesting a medication that is scheduled and not “as needed”. The patient was insistent, but this nurse remained gentle. Pretty soon the patient started discussing all of her medical conditions. She remained gentle, understanding, compassionate, and caring. She listened and offered ideas on how to navigate the challenge of being in a mental health facility while battling a debilitating illness. Overall, she is an amazing champion for the patients, and it is a delight to see her serving them daily.
